Apple to Enhance iPhone Energy Efficiency with AI
Apple will introduce an AI-powered battery management mode in iOS 19, set for release in September. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing sources.
According to the publication, the enhancement will analyze user behavior and make adjustments to conserve energy.
The new technology will be part of the Apple Intelligence platform. To develop it, the company is collecting battery condition data from user devices to identify common patterns and predict when to reduce the energy consumption of specific functions.
Additionally, a lock screen indicator will show the time required to charge the device.
This move continues the company’s strategy of integrating artificial intelligence into its gadgets. It announced Apple Intelligence in June 2024 and has since regularly added new AI features. However, the rollout has been accompanied by delays, which senior director for Siri, Robbie Walker, described as “embarrassing and frustrating.”
A key step towards energy efficiency will be the release of the compact iPhone 17—a simplified alternative to the standard and Pro models. Due to its slim design, the smartphone will have a much smaller battery, resulting in fewer hours of operation compared to other gadgets.
Through energy consumption optimization, Apple aims to offset the physical battery limitation. At the same time, the feature will be available for all iPhones with iOS 19.
The company is also preparing an updated Health app with an AI doctor codenamed Mulberry and a range of other changes.
Back in December 2024, Apple released a software update for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, adding ChatGPT support to the Siri voice assistant.
