Keanu Reeves discusses his stance on NFTs, metaverses, and cryptocurrencies.

Keanu Reeves is not a fan of NFT and metaverses created by tech giants like Meta, but he owns ‘a little cryptocurrency’. The actor said this in an interview with The Verge.

“Could we simply prevent the metaverse from resembling the one invented by Facebook?” he asked.

Reeves added that personally he has nothing against Mark Zuckerberg’s company. He noted that the concept of the metaverse predates Meta’s idea, and the virtual world led by the tech giant resembles more of a dystopia.

The actor also said he received ‘a little cryptocurrency’ as a gift from a friend. He noted that he does not engage in transactions with digital assets, but ‘simply owns them’.

On November 30, Warner Bros. released on Nifty’s marketplace the NFT collection tied to the upcoming release of the film ‘The Matrix: Resurrections’. 100,000 tokens were sold out within a few hours at $50 each.

When the host asked Reeves about the company’s initiative, he said he had never seriously considered buying such digital assets. The Verge journalist then noted that NFTs cannot be forged. In response the actor noted that ‘but they can be easily reproduced’, and laughed.

Earlier in November, Quentin Tarantino unveiled a collection of seven NFTs inspired by the film ‘Pulp Fiction’. Miramax filed a lawsuit against the director.
