Bill Gates: AI development could shorten the workweek

The development of artificial intelligence in the long run could shorten the workweek to three days. In a What Now? podcast, заявил billionaire and Microsoft founder Bill Gates.

In February, American experts conceded that AI development will destroy jobs and increase wealth inequality. According to a study by the Swedish Institute for Labour Market Policy Evaluation, IFAU, in the near future technology will replace human specialists in about 30 common professions.

Answering whether AI development threatens jobs, Gates conceded that there will come a time when people “do not have to work so much.” He said that eventually there could be a world where “machines can produce all the food and more.”

“If ultimately you end up in a society where you have to work only three days a week, that would probably be normal,” noted the billionaire.

Earlier, Gates criticised the idea of suspending research into large language models and called GPT the most revolutionary achievement in technology since 1980.

As reported in May, Microsoft co-founder predicted the emergence of digital AI agents that will radically change user behaviour online.
