Binance to open customer-service centre in Turkey

The cryptocurrency exchange Binance announced the launch of a customer-service centre in Turkey. The report, by the local branch of Cointelegraph, cites a press release.

According to the publication, the company will provide 24/7 Turkish-language support via the app. The initiative’s aim is to reduce instances of fraud.

In response to ForkLog’s inquiry, Binance representatives confirmed the launch of the service but did not disclose details.

In 2020 the trading platform launched the Binance TR unit with support for fiat deposits in lira. At the time, CEO Changpeng Zhao described Turkey as one of the leading countries in the pace of blockchain adoption and a key market for the global economy.

At the end of 2021, the Turkish Financial Crimes Investigation Board fined the local unit of the bitcoin exchange 8 million lira for violations identified during an audit.

Earlier the regulator required cryptocurrency trading platforms to notify about user transactions exceeding the 10 000-lira limit. In April, Turkey’s central bank banned the use of cryptocurrencies as a form of payment.

Earlier in January 2022, media reported on the growth in popularity of Bitcoin and Tether in Turkey due to the fall of the lira.
