The Disaster Girl meme’s protagonist, Zoe Roth, sold the famous photo as an NFT for 180 ETH (nearly $500,000 at the time of writing).
As Insider reports, the token went up for auction on April 16. The price rose to 180 ETH, valued at about $430,000 at the time. The NFT was purchased by a user going by the nickname 3FMusic.
Roth will retain copyright to the image and will receive 10% of each subsequent NFT resale.
Popular memes are increasingly being sold as NFTs. Among them are the Nyan Cat meme gif, the Unlucky Bryan meme and the ‘Chew Shit’ meme from the Ukrainian YouTube channel ‘Television Toronto’.
