Fox Group, BitRiver founder, funds LDPR’s pre-election campaign

Part of the funds for the LDPR’s participation in the upcoming State Duma elections in the Russian Federation were transferred by the Fox Group, the founder of the BitRiver data-centers operator for cryptocurrency mining.

According to the financial report published on the website of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation, in total the Liberal Democratic Party (LDPR) received 674.9 million rubles in funding. Of these, 24.5 million rubles were allocated by the Fox Group.

According to the Unified State Register of Legal Entities (EGRUL), the founder and chief executive of the Fox Group is Russian entrepreneur Igor Runets. The group includes the BitRiver data-centers operator for cryptocurrency mining.

The Fox Group is also a co-founder of LLC “BIT+”, which is engaged in mining in Irkutsk Oblast.

BIT+ LLC was created by the Fox Group in conjunction with LLC “IrkutskEnergosvyaz,” belonging to PJSC Irkutskenergo. The latter is part of EuroSibEnergo, En+ Group, one of whose shareholders is Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska.

In a ForkLog interview, BitRiver’s representative Roman Zabuga did not confirm, but also did not deny the information about The Fox Group’s involvement in funding the LDPR’s election campaign.

“We do not comment on any pre-election political activities. This is outside the scope of BitRiver’s communications policy,” Zabuga said.

He added that the assertion of “sponsoring the party with miners” is not accurate, as The Fox Group comprises various companies involved in construction, telecommunications, trading in engineering equipment and other activities.

Earlier in July, BitRiver, through its wholly owned subsidiary NBTC Limited entered into an agreement with the Chinese company The9 to place mining equipment for cryptocurrencies at a data center located in the Republic of Buryatia.
