GoldConnect starts accepting cryptocurrency

The leading telecommunications services provider in Latin America and the Caribbean GoldConnect added support for cryptocurrency payments as part of a partnership with the BitPay processing service, according to a company statement.

“As the region’s leading telecommunications services provider, we must continually embrace the latest technologies and business practices to improve engagement and the experience of our customers,” said GoldConnect Chief Operating Officer Jeremi Villalobos.

The company noted that BitPay’s solutions would “eliminate transaction fraud” and reduce processing costs. In GoldConnect’s view, this would help attract new customers.

Earlier, analytical company Chainalysis said that during 2020 Latin America accounted for 5% to 9% of total monthly cryptocurrency activity.

In April 2021, the online retailer Newegg added Dogecoin as a payment method via BitPay.

In May, the authorities of the American city of Williston announced the partnership with the service. Under the agreement, residents were allowed to pay their utilities with Bitcoin.
