Grimes sells NFT collection of unreleased music for $6 million

The Canadian musician and singer Claire Elise Boucher, known by the stage name Grimes, sold an NFT collection at a Nifty Gateway auction for $6 million. This is according to Decrypt.

The digital art collection is titled “WarNymph Collection Vol. 1” and comprises 10 works. In the community, some speculated that the child depicted in the paintings is Elon Musk and Grimes’ son named X Æ A-12.

The singer created the NFT in collaboration with her brother, digital artist Mac Boucher. Some tokens are accompanied by specially recorded tracks “Mars Theme”, “Ærythe” and “Anhedonia”.

The auction winners were determined randomly. The priciest lot was the video “Death of the Old” with flying cherubim for $388,938. Some NFTs were sold in editions of tens or hundreds. The main revenue came from the short videos “Earth” and “Mars”, which together fetched $5.18 million.

The singer plans to donate a portion of the proceeds to the nonprofit organization Carbon180, which fights carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere.

In January 2021, the Topps Digital collectible developer presented 18 NFT cards featuring Senator Bernie Sanders in mittens.

In early February, actress Lindsay Lohan sold the non-fungible token Lightning on Rarible for $70 000. The popular meme GIF Nyan Cat was sold at the Foundation auction for 300 ETH.

Earlier, the image of the former U.S. president Donald Trump who lost the election, titled “Crossroad,” was resold for a record $6.6 million.

The work belongs to digital artist Mike Winkelmann, known as Beeple. Christie’s was the first to put up for sale his NFT “Everydays: The First 5000 Days.”
