John McAfee’s widow questions account of his suicide

Janice McAfee, the widow of entrepreneur John McAfee, said she could not believe the story of his suicide until the investigation was concluded.

75-year-old entrepreneur was found dead in a prison cell a few hours after the Spanish Supreme Court authorised his extradition to the United States.

In a statement posted on Twitter, Janice noted that the court’s decision was not unexpected for John and could not have driven him to despair. In their last conversation they discussed plans for the next stages of the legal battle.

“The extradition would not have happened immediately; it would have taken at least many months,” added the widow.

She said John was prepared for the ensuing fight.

Janice McAfee stressed that the media reported the entrepreneur’s suicide before she or his lawyer had registered his death.

“I cannot describe in words how furious I am to have learned of John’s death from a Twitter post,” she wrote.

Media also claimed there was a “suicide note” that was not mentioned when she collected McAfee’s belongings from the prison, Janice noted.

“The investigation into John’s death is still ongoing, but I will share any information I can. For now I disagree with the ‘suicide’ tale spread by mainstream media, which are a malignant cancer. They and their unnamed sources cannot be trusted,” she concluded.

McAfee was arrested in October 2020 in Spain at the request of US authorities. The Securities and Exchange Commission charged the entrepreneur with deceiving investors in promoting ICO projects, and the Justice Department charged him with tax evasion. In 2021, against McAfee they brought charges of fraud and money laundering.

He described the case against him an attack on all cryptocurrencies and he believed the charges to be politically motivated.

Earlier, shortly before his death, McAfee said that he had lost all his cryptocurrency holdings, and the rest of his assets were seized.
