Ethereum developers switch Goerli testnet to Proof-of-Stake

The Ethereum team has successfully completed the transition of the Goerli testnet to the Proof-of-Stake consensus algorithm (PoS).

The Goerli testnet has been successfully merged and is now a full Proof of Stake chain.

Next up is (finally) the Ethereum mainnet!!

To this end, developers merged the network with the PoS-consensus Beacon Chain known as Prater.

«The Goerli testnet merge has been successfully completed and it is now a full Proof-of-Stake chain. Next (at last) — the Ethereum mainnet. The Merge is coming!», — wrote EthHub co-founder Anthony Sassano.

Developer Marius van der Wijden noted that there was “some confusion” in the network due to many nodes with outdated software. According to him, there were no issues at the code level during the transition.

In June the Ethereum team carried out a migration of the Ropsten testnet to the PoS algorithm. In July a similar event occurred on the Sepolia testnet.

Activation of The Merge on the mainnet is planned for September. The Goerli migration marks the third, final rehearsal of The Merge before its deployment on the mainnet.

Testnets Kiln and Rinkeby will not be migrated to PoS. After the mainnet migration, they will be closed, as will Ropsten.

Against the backdrop of the successful latest test of The Merge, the price of Ethereum breached the $1900 mark. In 24 hours the coin rose by almost 13%.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin suggested that after the transition to PoS the network could reach a throughput of 100,000 TPS.
