Former Ant Group and Uber executive named president of Binance.US

Binance announced the appointment of Brian Shroder as president of the US arm of the bitcoin exchange.

“As president, Brian will oversee the company’s strategy and its execution, fundraising, business and corporate development, and also manage the legal, human resources, product and technology functions of the firm,” the statement said.

Previously, Shroder led business development at Ant Group, the fintech subsidiary of the Chinese internet giant Alibaba. He also oversaw the company’s operations in Southeast Asia. Before that, he served as head of strategy and business development for Uber in the Asia-Pacific region.

“I look forward to sharing our compelling story with a broader investor base as we begin our journey toward a IPO,” said Shroder.

In April Binance.US hired as CEO the former head of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency at the U.S. Treasury, Brian Brooks. In July he left the company, citing differences in views on the strategic direction of development.

Later, media reports described a conflict between Brooks and Binance chief Changpeng Zhao. The position was temporarily filled by the US unit’s chief financial officer, Josh Sroge.

In September, Zhao said Binance.US planned to conduct an initial public offering on a U.S. exchange within the next three years.
