Interactive Brokers chief Thomas Peterffy on cryptocurrency investments

The founder and chief executive of Interactive Brokers, Thomas Peterffy, in comments to CNBC said that he ‘has invested a little money’ in digital assets.

“Although this market is likely to prove unviable, there is a small probability that it will spawn a dominant currency, so one must be prepared for a risky game,” the billionaire said.

He did not specify the names of the digital assets in his investment portfolio.

In late summer 2021, Interactive Brokers will launch cryptocurrency trading. Peterffy noted that a number of the company’s clients had shown interest in the new opportunity, and he fully understands them.

In 2017, the billionaire warned of the ‘risks to capital markets’ posed by Bitcoin futures.

As reported on July 21, 2021, during The B Word conference, Elon Musk announced that SpaceX had invested in the first cryptocurrency. Inspired by the event, American rapper Basta Rays bought Bitcoin.

On July 23, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey outlined plans to integrate digital gold into the social network. He also called Bitcoin one of three key trends shaping the platform’s future, alongside artificial intelligence and decentralisation.
