Jack Dorsey outlines plans to integrate Bitcoin into Twitter

Twitter chief Jack Dorsey named Bitcoin as one of three key trends shaping the future of the social network, alongside artificial intelligence and decentralisation. TechCrunch reports, citing the company’s second-quarter earnings report.

Dorsey said that integrating cryptocurrency into existing products and services in the future should become ‘a big part’ of Twitter.

\n\n

He also reiterated that he regards Bitcoin as the best candidate for the role of the ‘native currency of the Internet’.

\n\n

‘If there is a native global currency in the network, we can develop our products much faster. With it, we can reach every person on the planet,’ Dorsey said.

\n\n

He noted that Twitter will not be the only service aiming to deploy digital assets. Another major social network, Facebook, could integrate digital currency Diem, Dorsey stressed.

\n\n

‘There is clearly a need for this. I think the Internet’s open standard is the right path. Therefore we will focus on Bitcoin,’ he said.

\n\n

Dorsey has long argued that Bitcoin is the best realization of the Internet’s global currency. In 2020 he stated that blockchain would define Twitter’s future, and in June 2021 he did not rule out the integration of the Lightning Network’s second-layer solution into the service.
