Report: Two-thirds of Canadians willing to be paid in cryptocurrency

67% of Canadians are interested in moving salary payments to digital assets over the next five years. These results were reported by the marketing and consulting firm Capterra.

The survey involved 1,008 Canadian residents aged 18 and over.

One in four respondents had already acquired cryptocurrency, with 58% of them taking that step during the pandemic. 37% of respondents expressed interest in purchasing cryptocurrency in the near future.

Participants most often mentioned Bitcoin (81%), Ethereum (48%), Dogecoin (28%), Litecoin and Cardano (18% each).

Among crypto investors, the largest share was among those aged 18–22 (34%) and 23–35 (41%).

As obstacles to buying digital assets, respondents cited a lack of necessary knowledge (64%), concerns about cryptocurrencies disappearing (44%), and high volatility (40%).

The researchers also identified motivating factors for purchasing cryptocurrencies. 58% cited profit-seeking, 48% a desire to belong to an innovative community, 44% support for a decentralized future, 29% a focus on privacy, and 26% a desire to gain independence from the banking system.

In January, Huobi analysts found that in the United States 68% of crypto investors made their first trade in 2021.
