Russian man to sell NFT featuring looping video of him swallowing a live bat at the doors of the European Parliament

Performance artist Petr Davydchenko opened auction for the sale of a non-fungible token (NFT), in which he recorded a looping video of a live bat in his mouth outside the doors of the European Parliament.

Starting price — 2.5 WETH (~$4100). The auction on the OpenSea platform will run until 12:52 MSK on February 27.

In the video, a tattoo on Davydchenko’s forehead bears the name of one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical corporations. According to the artist, this was his way to draw public attention to health-care issues.

«The EU takes millions of euros in lobbying money from big pharma every year. My performance is necessary to raise awareness of the millions of deaths resulting from government-approved corporate murder.», — he explained his actions in a press release to DeCrypt.

As of writing, there were no bidders willing to raise the bid for the NFT.

\n

EU legislation provides a fine for “intentional harm to animal life” of €1,500 ($1,820). In case of “acts of cruelty” or “serious injuries” the punishment rises to €30,000 ($36,400) and may lead to a prison sentence of up to two years.

On OpenSea, in the auction description, a native of the closed town Arzamas-16 Davydchenko stated that such performances give him “means of livelihood.”

Recall, at Foundation’s auction recently sold a popular meme GIF of Nyan Cat for 300 ETH (~$568,000 at the time of writing).

On February 17, Christie’s first put up for auction a non-fungible token. The work Everydays: The First 5000 Days was created by artist Mike Winkelmann, known by the pseudonym Beeple.
