Study Reveals AI Concerns Among Americans

Americans are deeply concerned about AI advancements and unemployment implications.

Americans are deeply concerned about advancements in artificial intelligence and its implications for unemployment, according to a study by Reuters and Ipsos.

71% of respondents fear that AI will permanently displace many workers.

77% worry about the technology’s potential to create political chaos, including generating fake realistic videos of fictional events.

In July, U.S. President Donald Trump shared a video on social media depicting the arrest of former President Barack Obama—an event that never occurred.

Americans are also skeptical about the use of AI in the military sector:

  • 48% believe the technology should never be used to select strike targets;
  • 24% would allow it;
  • 28% are undecided.

61% of Americans are concerned about the energy consumption of artificial intelligence. Other criticized issues include chatbots engaging in romantic interactions with children, creating false medical information, and aiding in forming racist arguments.

Two-thirds of respondents fear that people will abandon human relationships in favor of AI companions.

Opinions are divided in the field of education:

  • 36% find the technology beneficial;
  • 40% do not;
  • the rest are unsure.

The survey included 4,446 adult U.S. residents.

Back in August 2024, British trade unions warned of the risk of millions of job cuts due to artificial intelligence.
