UniSat Wallet for Bitcoin Ordinals halts operations after attacks

The UniSat Wallet app for Bitcoin-NFTs and BRC-20 tokens on the Ordinals protocol came under a large number of double-spend attacks in the initial hours after launch due to a vulnerability in the codebase.

The team behind the Chrome extension halted the service and said:

During our testing last week we simulated various approaches to double-spend attacks and made improvements and enhancements to the code. Unfortunately, some issues in the initial public version were not detected.

According to the preliminary investigation conducted by the developers, the incidents affected 70 transactions out of 383. All affected users were promised full compensation.

UniSat Wallet positions itself as the first wallet and marketplace provider for BRC-20 assets. The new standard, similar to ERC-20 on Ordinals, enables the launch of fungible tokens on the Bitcoin blockchain.

Please understand that BRC-20 is still very young and numerous issues have been identified and resolved in the last 30 days, the team stressed.

It will also announce a relaunch of the service.

Ordinals, introduced in January 2023, opened the possibility of creating NFTs in the form of ‘digital artifacts’ on the Bitcoin blockchain.
