YouTube plans to use NFTs to monetise content
YouTube is weighing the possibility of integrating NFTs to monetise content on the platform. This was stated by Neil Mohan, the service’s product chief.
“Web3 opens up new opportunities for creators. We believe that new technologies such as blockchain and NFT will allow content creators to build closer relationships with their fans. Together they will collaborate on new projects and earn in ways that were previously impossible,” he wrote.
As an example of possible uses of the technology, Mohan cited verifiable ownership of unique videos, photographs and other works.
According to the publication, in 2021 more than 2 million users joined YouTube’s Partner Programme.
Earlier, CEO Susan Wojcicki said that the service planned to integrate NFTs.
In January 2022, Twitter integrated NFT as profile avatars for users.
In February, a similar option was added by the OnlyFans content-subscription service.
