Riot Blockchain has mined 2,457 BTC year-to-date
In September 2021, the publicly traded U.S. mining company Riot Blockchain mined 406 BTC. The year-to-date total mined cryptocurrency stood at 2,457 BTC.
The figure was roughly 236% higher than the number of Riot BTC mined in the first nine months of 2020.
As of September 30, the company’s cryptocurrency reserves reached 3,534 BTC (~$193.5 million). All coins come from Riot’s own mining operations.
The company operates a fleet of 25,646 Bitcoin miners with a total hash rate of 2.6 EH/s. It is planned that by November the number of deployed devices will increase by 2,000 units, delivered in September to the Whinstone data center (Rockdale, Texas) ordered from Bitmain.
Riot acquired the operator of the facility in May 2021.
Whinstone infrastructure development is proceeding on plan; construction is ongoing around the clock, the company said. By the end of the third quarter:
- Three substations with a capacity of 100 MW each have been installed;
- Construction of the fourth building is 50% complete, and the structures of the fifth are 25% complete;
- Earthworks have been carried out for two additional facilities.
Riot expects that by the fourth quarter of 2022 its hash rate will reach 7.7 EH/s, assuming the full deployment of about 81,150 miners ordered from Bitmain.
Earlier in August 2021, investment company BlackRock acquired a stake in Riot, with assets under management of $9.5 trillion.
