
Russian Defence Ministry to create a directorate for AI development
The Russian Defence Ministry will create a directorate for AI development. This was stated by members of the Military-Industrial Commission during a visit to the design bureau of the Sukhoi company.
At the company’s facilities, representatives of the ministry held an extended meeting of the working group on issues related to the development of dual-use unmanned aircraft systems. They discussed with manufacturers issues related to AI-enabled UAVs and their coordinated use.
The leading development companies, part of the working group, demonstrated to the Ministry of Defence representatives their latest achievements in unmanned technologies. They stated that the AI they have developed can be deployed in both military applications and in dual-use equipment.
The Sukhoi company also showed the commission members stands with test flights of military unmanned aircraft, which operate in fully autonomous mode.

In April, the Association of Russian Lawyers proposed to government bodies regulate the operation of algorithms in the country.
At the end of March, the Pentagon urged to expand the use of artificial intelligence in military purposes, in order not to fall behind rivals.
