Telegram began removing bots that scrape users’ data following a Roskomnadzor order

The messaging app Telegram has begun blocking popular bots that were used to obtain users’ personal data.

In the Telegram channel “Eye of God” is said that after the audit the administration brought the documents “into the proper legal framework in accordance with the recent amendments to the Personal Data Law.” The administration noted that, in legal terms, the service is a search engine.

In addition to the Eye of God bot, Telegram has deleted several other popular similar services.

A few days earlier, according to Kommersant, Roskomnadzor demanded that Telegram block bots that collect and disseminate residents’ personal data.

The agency said that the actions of the owners of such bots violate the personal data protection law.

Earlier it was reported that criminals began using users’ personal data collected by Telegram bots, for blackmail and extortion.
