The electric-vehicle maker Fisker does not currently plan to invest in Bitcoin or accept cryptocurrency as payment. This was stated by the company’s CEO Henrik Fisker in an interview with CNBC.

The energy demands associated with Bitcoin mining, he said, run contrary to the company’s mission to build “the most environmentally safe cars in the world.”

«I don’t think it’s a sustainable solution. It’s not environmentally friendly,» he said.

Fisker did not rule out that, in the future, the company might revisit its decision to accept cryptocurrency payments, but for now Fisker is not focused on the issue.

Earlier, in February, another electric-car maker Tesla disclosed investments $1.5 billion in Bitcoin, and in March Elon Musk said the company would begin accepting payments in cryptocurrency.

However, as early as May, Tesla paused the sale of electric vehicles for Bitcoin over concerns about the environmental impact of cryptocurrency mining.

The company pledged not to sell the coins it holds and to resume cryptocurrency sales once mining meets its sustainability criteria.

Later, Elon Musk said the automaker still holds Bitcoin.
