The new option, called NFT Tweet Tile, is in testing. It will allow users to buy or sell tokens via a dedicated button, and view information about the creator.
For the initiative, the social network is aided by Magic Eden, Rarible, Dapper Labs and Jump Trade.
A Twitter spokesperson told Decrypt that testing involves “some users [of the app] on iOS and the web version.” Using the feature does not require a premium subscription, he added.
In early 2022 the social network integrated the ability to add NFTs as profile avatars. The option was available on iOS to Twitter Blue subscribers after linking an Ethereum wallet to the account.
In September 2021 Twitter announced a system for verifying non-fungible tokens.
On October 28, Elon Musk closed the deal to buy the social network for $44 billion. He explained his decision as an effort to create an “inclusive arena for freedom of speech”.
