Wallet bot adds the ability to buy Bitcoin and TON in Telegram

The Wallet bot developers in Telegram launched a P2P service for direct buying and selling of Bitcoin and Toncoin (TON) between users.

For completing a deal, users select offers in the app with suitable terms. The transaction is guaranteed by the service itself. In the event of any disagreement between seller and buyer, the administration will handle resolving the dispute.

Payments are accepted in US dollars, euros, hryvnias, Belarusian rubles and tenge. The seller’s fee will be 0.9% of the transaction amount.

The service is marketed as an ‘anonymous P2P transaction’, however users must provide the bot with their mobile phone number to deposit, exchange or purchase cryptocurrencies.

In the future, the project plans to expand the list of available cryptocurrencies.

According to the project’s internal statistics, the number of accounts on the network exceeds 1.3 million.

TON Community on Telegram has almost 630,000 subscribers.

According to CoinMarketCap, at the time of writing the TON token trades at $1.41 with a market capitalisation of more than $1.7 billion. The total supply is 1.22 billion coins.

In May 2020, Telegram founder Pavel Durov announced the shutdown of the Telegram Open Network (TON) project due to a legal dispute with the SEC and a ban on token distribution.

After the TON closure, several independent teams continued to work on the blockchain based on the project’s code. Among them — Free TON (renamed to Everscale), a Chinese project from TON Community and NewTON.

The latter, in May 2020, launched the test network NewTON Blockchain. In August 2021, the TON team handed over the domain ton.org and the project’s GitHub repository to the project, which renamed itself The Open Network.

In December of that year, Durov publicly supported the developers of this network.

In August 2022, he spoke of a potential launch of a TON-based marketplace for selling usernames, links to channels and groups in the messenger.
