The Ripple project developers have begun testing EVM-compatible sidechain, designed to extend the XRP Ledger’s functionality with Ethereum smart contracts and to make DeFi applications accessible.

The new solution, not yet publicly testable, is being developed by Peersyst. Interaction with the sidechain is currently possible only in the Devnet experimental network.
The second phase of testing is slated to begin in early 2023. Then, according to the developers, the sidechain will become publicly available. It is also expected to include native XRP support.
A mainnet launch is planned for the second quarter of 2023.
Back in March, the company Ripple pledged to allocate 1 billion XRP for the XRP Ledger ecosystem development program.
