Yuga Labs to launch online game with NFT prizes

The company behind the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT collection, Yuga Labs, has announced plans to launch the game Dookey Dash, in which participants will be able to earn non-fungible tokens for their activity.

On January 17, the company will distribute Sewer Pass tokens to owners of BAYC and Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFTs. The passes will enable access to the Dookey Dash game.

Participation does not require owning the above NFTs. Sewer Passes can be purchased on the secondary market.

The results of the event will be announced on February 15. Until February 8, players will accumulate points, which will later be exchanged for “mysterious sources of energy,” the nature of which is not disclosed.

The company noted that the “sources” will “evolve” throughout the year and “prepare for forthcoming battles.”

“You will have three weeks to play as many times as you want. Players will be rewarded based on their results. […] The one with the highest score will receive the key,” — on the the project’s site.

Co-founder Wylie Aronow, in an interview with CoinDesk, hinted that Dookey Dash is part of Yuga Labs’ broader plan to refine the experience of the metaverse of Otherside . The platform will allow players to own land and turn NFTs into playable characters.

In 2022, the trading volume of Ethereum-based non-fungible tokens exceeded $23.7bn . The peak of activity came with the Otherside announcement.

In December, Illuvium founder Kiran Warwick said that appointing Activision Blizzard’s top executive Daniel Alegre as the new CEO of Yuga Labs is an important signal for GameFi.
