Chelyabinsk region resident loses nearly half a million rubles trying to profit from cryptocurrencies
A resident of Troitsk contacted the authorities to report that he had become the victim of scammers while attempting to invest in cryptocurrencies.
According to the МВД Челябинской области, the man saw an advertisement for quick earnings online and registered on the site of a certain exchange. An unknown person then contacted him, presenting themselves as the platform’s lead specialist.
Following the latter’s instructions, the victim began transferring funds to the platform from April.
“Over the entire period, the man invested 463,000 rubles on the exchange site and in cryptocurrencies from his personal savings and credit cards, from which he recovered 7,300 rubles,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
When he wanted to withdraw the money, the “specialist” said that the operation could not be carried out without additional top-ups to the account.
The authorities have opened a criminal case for fraud.
Earlier, a resident of Penza fell victim to cryptocurrency scammers, losing more than 3.5 million rubles.
