US authorities sell 9.45 BTC at auction below market price

On 26 April, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) продало at auction 9.45 BTC for a total of $486,525 at a price below market value.

The cryptocurrency was split into 11 lots. Bitcoin price quotes at the close were above $53,300.

The first lot of 1.25 BTC drew 12 bids and was bought for $62,275, which yields a price of $49,820 per coin.

The last lot of 1.75 BTC went under the hammer for $91,000 after 11 bids. The purchase price was $52,000 per bitcoin. According to CoinGecko, bitcoin quotes at the time of purchase were around $54,000.

All coins put up for bidding were bought at prices below the market rate at the time of sale.

The provenance of the bitcoins sold by the agency is not disclosed.

Earlier, at the first GSA auction in 2021 for selling cryptocurrency in mid-March, 0.7501 BTC went for a price about $9,000 above the market rate of bitcoin at the time.

The next auction, in which the Agency placed 6.79 BTC in ten lots, took place at the end of March.

In the same month, French authorities sold 0.11 BTC for €26,800 (~$31,900), five times the market price.
